Count Celtic-folk singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lizzy Hoyt to the list of young Canadian artists who are ‘going back to the source’ and embracing traditional music while forging unique artistic identities. On her fourth album, New Lady on the Prairie, she teams up with Canada’s most respected bluegrass and Celtic musicians for a lyrical nod to the past - a collection of songs about Canadian history, immigration, women and family.

The title track is a celebration of strong pioneer women who were among the early settlers to the country. It’s based on the story of Hoyt’s great great aunt, who immigrated to Canada from Ireland in the early 1900s.

On the FolkDJ Radio Playlists, Hoyt’s new album charted as the #4 most played Canadian album in September 2014 and stayed in the top 7 for the remainder of the year. The album has received glowing reviews by many prominent music magazines including Penguin Eggs, Music Road and FolkWords (UK), and has been featured on BBC Radio.

Hoyt’s music has been recognized on both the national and international level by way of nominations and awards (International Acoustic Music Awards, Canadian Folk Music Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, Independent Music Awards & international songwriting competitions). In 2013, Lizzy received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Governor General of Canada for her outstanding contribution to commemorating Canadian veterans and history through music.

Lizzy is a full-time musician who tours folk clubs, theaters and festivals throughout the country with her trio. She has garnered rave reviews from media, audiences and presenters alike for her energetic and diverse live performances. She has also gained a reputation as a highly organized touring artist who creates long-lasting work relationships with both musicians and presenters.
