Adisq 2015 Nominee — Album of the year — Traditional
Canadian Folk Music Awards 2014 Recipient — Traditional Singer of the Year
Independent Music Awards 2015 Nominee — World Beat album of the Year
Drawing from a rich heritage of traditional francophone songs, Melisande unearths rare treasures that she adapts and presents with a feminist perspective and the distinctly modern sound of the band. The Québécois quartet plays an energetic blend of traditional music, rock and electro with a mix of acoustic and electric instruments, vocal harmonies and sequencing. Led by Mélisande and her husband Alexandre de Grosbois-Garand, the group offers a fresh artistic proposal to the folk-world-trad music scene. Its first album Les métamorphoses, greatly acknowledged by the critics here and abroad, was released in May 2014 on La Prûche Libre, an independent label co-owned by one of Québec’s folk music legends Yves Lambert.
Melisande’s rich musical background and her mesmerizing voice give a fresh take on these traditional songs that she delivers with strong personality. Often groovy, sometimes atmospheric, the songs convey the audience to a journey through time and space to discover timeless realities of women’s life. The group can get a festival crowd dancing or captivate its audience in a concert setting. Melisande [électrotrad] released the music video Le vin est bon on November 2015 and had significant airplay on the Folk DJ circuit throughout Canada and the US. The band performed over fifty concerts in Canada, the US and Australia.
