The Sweet Lowdown is an award-winning acoustic roots trio from Victoria, BC. Comprised of Amanda Blied (guitar, vocals), Shanti Bremer (banjo/vocals) and Miriam Sonstenes (fiddle, vocals), The Sweet Lowdown blends traditional old time instrumentation with original songwriting and instrumental compositions. The outcome is a sound that is both novel and unique, while at the same time pays homage to bluegrass, old time, and other traditional root music forms. The Sweet Lowdown's most recent release, May (2012), produced and recorded by Adrian Dolan (The Bills, Ruth Moody Band), earned the trio a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination, and was awarded Roots Album of the Year (Vancouver Island Music Awards). The trio will be touring in North Carolina and the UK, as well as recording their next album, in early 2014 and are looking forward to a busy year of touring and festivals.
