Charlie Demers is an author of five books and stand-up comedian. His collection of essays, Vancouver Special, was shortlisted for the Hubert Evans BC Book Prize for Non-Fiction. He is also the author of The Prescription Errors, The Horrors: An A to Z of Funny Thoughts on Awful Things and The Dad Dialogues co-written with George Bowering. Charlie’s latest book, the novel Property Values, was published in April 2018. He has performed for national television and radio audiences and at the Just for Laughs Festival. He is one of the most frequently returning stars of CBC Radio’s smash-hit comedy show The Debaters. By combining political humour that's never shrill or self-righteous with broader jokes that are never thoughtless, Charles is equally well-received whether delivering jokes in a sports bar or emceeing a gala for the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. Not many people have both on their resume. Charles can add Netflix animated series star to his resume. He is the voice of one of the five main characters (Walter) in Beat Bugs, an animated series on Netflix. Charlie released the comedy album Fatherland on 604 Records in Nov 2017. The new album tackles the trials and tribulations of being a new father, as well as fascism! Culled from multiple performances in Vancouver in April 2017, Fatherland shows Demers at his sophisticated best. Clearly influenced by the current state of world politics, the album brings a fresh and hilarious perspective to many of the commonly debated topics of the day such as racism. http://www.turnerentertainmentgroup.com/charliedemers.html Home Base: British Columbia |
