“A hilarious ride through a western town,
complete with gun fights, bar fights, plane crashes
and, of course, mad bombers, all as seen through
the fresh eyes of a newbie reporter for the Williams
Lake Tribune.”—Randy Shore, Vancouver
Sun
“A witty, fast-paced tale of small-town journalism,
First Nations poverty, Valdy and, yes, stampede queens.
Several stampede queens actually. Stampede Queen is
funny. Really funny,” Jason Hewlett Kamloops
Daily News
Zachary Stevenson (the Art’s Club’s Buddy
Holly) stars in an all-new stage adaptation of Mark
Leiren-Young’s Never Shoot a Stampede
Queen,
winner of the Leacock Medal for Humour.
TJ Dawe - director of the off-Broadway Hit “One
Man Star Wars” - presents the adaptation by author.
The night Mark Leiren-Young drove into Williams Lake,
British Columbia, to work as a reporter for the venerable
Williams Lake Tribune, he arrived on the scene of an
armed robbery. And that was before things got weird.
For a 22-year-old from Vancouver, a stint in the legendary
Cariboo town was a trip to another world and another
era.
Never Shoot a Stampede Queen follows the adventures
of a big city (Vancouver) boy who arrives in the crime
capital of BC (Williams Lake) and discovers stranger
news, quirkier characters, and better friends than
he ever could have imagined. He also learns about the
dangers of photographing aspiring rodeo royalty.
Named one of the top ten talents to watch in the Vancouver
Sun, Zachary Stevenson is an accomplished actor, singer-songwriter,
and multi-instrumentalist. With a BFA in theatre, Zach
has been featured in major theatres and concert venues
across North America from the Queen Charlotte Islands
to New York City. Zach is best known for BUDDY: The
Buddy Holly Story, and leading roles in Hair, Hank
Williams: The Show He Never Gave, FIRE, Urinetown,
Assassins, and The Ballad of Phil Ochs.
