Tara Cheyenne Performance creates meaningful connections by encouraging and growing the work of underrepresented artists and performers in the Dance-Theatre communities. We produce socially and personally relevant performances that, through comedy and poignancy, will spark community engagement.

DanStaBat Performance Society (operating as Tara Cheyenne Performance) was established in 1985, recognized federally as a not-for-profit charitable organization on August 21,1986 and has since been sharing its work with the general public.

First founded my Chick Snipper, DanStaBat invited Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg to become its Artistic Director in 2007 and has since become a leader in the field of dance-theatre, and performance. Our work is unique in its innovation of the form since we work between, within, and outside the “discipline” of dance. Our use of text and unapologetic comedy open doors to people not familiar with contemporary dance. All our work is based on the wonderful human experience.

Tara has been creating and performing signature works since graduating from SFU. She is recognized as the preeminent dance-theater force and sought-after choreographer in Vancouver and beyond. Performing highlights: DanceBase/Edinburgh, South Bank Centre/London, On the Boards/Seattle USA, High Performance Rodeo/Calgary.

Her solo pieces: nick and juanita, banger, goggles, porno death cult; duet and ensemble works: the body project, highgate, empty.swimming.pool and how to be. Tara has been nominated for the Jessie, Ovation and Lola awards for her theatrical choreography and is a 2014 recipient of the Chrystal Dance Prize. Tara is expanding her engaging performances in upcoming works including film and environmental venues.
