Touring SELFIE, iLumiDance, and Mixed Bag

Rainbow Dance Theatre’s (RDT’s) high-powered, virtuosic dance style combines with audience engagement and motion tracking technology in SELFIE, the mystery of illusion in iLumiDance, and is highlighted in a variety of repertory in Mixed Bag.

RDT’s newest show SELFIE employs social media to literally bring your audience onstage during the show. Multiple projectors, sensors, cameras and full-stage scrims create a world of wonder where the dance emerges in a virtual landscape that reacts in real time to the motion of the dancers. Together with artistic collaborators from around the world, RDT directors Valerie Bergman and Darryl Thomas have created an exotic landscape through which to explore the mystery of the “self”.

Audience favorite iLumiDance continues to light up stages throughout Canada with its mystery and magic. The dance emerges on a darkened stage, with set, costumes and props designed from electro-luminescent light (EL) wire, allowing dancers to morph, disappear and reappear in the blink of an eye.

Mixed Bag presents a variety of works from the RDT repertory, each featuring a unique blend of dance and visual design, including Mixed Bag, with set and costumes made from recycled garbage bags, cans and bottles, Big Bang which incorporates black light illusion, Melt danced in front of an ever-changing backdrop of eight projection screens, Higgs Boson (The God Particle) danced in and around seven large 3-D triangles illuminated by projected animation, and Light Flight featuring EL wire costumes and puppets .

RDT tours with lights, sets, dance floor and rigging in order to deliver high-impact, artistic entertainment within the technical capacity of a given venue, from opera house to concert hall to auditorium.
