Young Québec harpist Valérie
Milot,
described as "very refined" by
La Presse, Montréal, is such a colourful and
powerful musician that she challenges all the clichés
about her instrument.
Laureate of the prestigious Prix d Europe 2008, Valérie
is the first harpist in almost 100 years to receive
this honour. The award will allow her to perfect
her skills with Rita Costanzi in New York over the
coming year.
In addition to these honours, Valérie was a
laureate at the American Harp Society National Competition,
earning the "Salzedo Centennial Fund" award
for her interpretation of the work Scintillation, by
Carlos Salzedo. She was also laureate of the OSM Standard
Life Competition in 2007, in addition to winning the
prize for best interpretation of a Canadian work, for
Tanzmusik by Glenn Buhr. Valérie was named
Young Soloist 2009 by the French Public Radios network,
made up of Radio France, Radio Suisse Romande, RTBF
Belgium and Radio-Canada. Valérie won
in November 2008 the Special Prize for best interpretation
of a contemporary work in the International harp Competition
of the Cité des Arts in Paris.
Already over the past few years, Valérie has
been invited to perform several recitals and concerts
accross Canada and in Europe. She was a guest
soloist with many Canadian symphony orchestras.
In July 2008, she travelled to Amsterdam to perform
Raga, a work for two harps with the composer, Canadian
harpist Caroline Lizotte, as part of the 2008 World
Harp Congress. Valérie Milot will tour
nationally with Jeunesses musicales du Canada in 2010.
