The Alcan String Quartet from Quebec and the Lafayette String Quartet from British Columbia. Both quartets have been successfully lasting in this music world for more than 25 years. This unique program created for the Celabration of Canada’s 150th anniversary, includes:

- Mendelssohn’s octet in E-flat major op. 20
- Niels Gade, String octet opus 17
- Kelly-Mary Murphy (Canadian) Blues and the principles of excitation
- A brand new commisionned piece from the Canadia composer: Airat Ichmouratov

The Alcan Quartet — violinists Laura Andriani and Nathalie Camus, violist Luc Beauchemin, and cellist David Ellis — has developed a reputation for excellence throughout Canada and internationally. Celebrating 25 years, the quartet’sThe originality, contagious enthusiasm, unique sonority, and remarkable cohesion have all contributed to its long term success.

The Lafayette String Quartet — violinists Ann Elliott-Goldschmidt and Sharon Stanis, violist Joanna Hood and cellist Pamela Highbaugh Aloni. Since 1986, the Lafayette String Quartet has divided their time between entertaining audiences all over North America and Europe and teaching some of Canada’s finest young string players. Their residency at the University of Victoria is rich in local performances and community involvement. Their concerts in Canada and abroad are hailed as “Passionate, riviting, and with flawless ensemble.”

The octet will be touring in BC between Jan 10 and 21, 2018.
