John McLachlan presents “Early Morning Rain: the songs of Gordon Lightfoot.” It’s a wander through the wonderfully crafted songs of one of Canada’s greatest songwriters, presented by musicians perfectly suited for the journey. John McLachlan, with Marc Atkinson (guitar/mandolin) and Scott White (bass), perform over 25 songs from Lightfoot’s first ten, prolific years, all lovingly arranged in ways that make them familiar to anyone who followed his music, but also fresh for those who have never heard them before. This is no standard “tribute” show but rather a musical love letter with new arrangements to familiar classics. Available as a duo or trio. Other shows feature original McLachlan songs including “Call It Home,” a multimedia show of music, stories and projected images throughout that tell of youth, the passage of time and the vibrancy of life on Hornby Island which John McLachlan now calls home; and, a general concert featuring songs that focus on the BC Coast both personally and historically. “John draws the universal from the personal and everyone in the audience reflects on their own ‘home’ as the songs, stories and exquisite images flow over you. Make a plan to see it!” Bill Usher, Kicking Horse Culture, Golden, BC — After a hiatus working in arts administration and graphic design, in 2014 John returned to music, writing and recording the albums, Call it Home (2016), Wind and Bones (2017), Time Broke (2018) with multi-instrumentalist, Marc Atkinson, McLachlan Sings Lightfoot (2018), and Rhythm in my Run (2019).
