Music has taken Christine from touring Canada's High Arctic with a tango trio, to playing traditional music in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.
While classically trained, Christine in her many roles – cellist, composer and sound designer – is eclectic in her musical explorations. Her experiences include compositional commissions, arranging, studio work, theatre, television, film composition, and performing as an ensemble musician.
She is also an experienced instructor, teaching professional master classes, and workshops on both sides of the Atlantic.
Christine was presented with CBC’s Galaxie Award for Best New Artist at Canada’s Junofest!
Hanson's original compositions are featured in her compelling multi-media production "The Cremation of Sam McGee", which was commissioned by the Celtic Connections Festival, and premiered at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. It was subsequentially recorded as a CD, and extensively toured throughout the UK.
Christine's wonderful musical compositions accompanying what is probably Robert Service’s best-known poem, "The Cremation of Sam McGee" make full play with the poetry’s different colours, nuances, tones and range—varying from traditional jigs, reels and country waltzes to southern swing and frosty musical soundscapes which perfectly evoke the bizarre, tragicomic setting of Service’s poem. The production is further enhanced by the projection of celebrated Canadian artist "Ted Harrison's" dynamic paintings that were also inspired by Service's poem. The performance takes the audience in tandem across the snowy landscape on a truly magical journey.
Her multi-media performance of "Sam McGee" is suitable for audiences of all ages, and is available with her full eight piece band, or for more intimate settings - "Fireside Sam".
School show inquires are welcomed, and easily accommodated.
