Now living in Vancouver, acclaimed contemporary folk singer-songwriter Chris Ronald emigrated from his native England in 2002. Influenced by countless British and North American artists of the 60s onward, Ronald’s music has been described as Canadian folk with British roots, a formula that has seen recent chart success alongside John Prine and Bruce Cockburn.

Ronald first got hooked on songwriting at age 15 when he put to music a poem he wrote in high school, but he only started to go public in his thirties after moving to Canada and self-producing his first two albums. In 2014, Ronald made a breakthrough with his third album, Timeline, which gained him numerous accolades including a nomination for ‘Songwriter of the Year’ at the Canadian Folk Music Awards and a place in the finals of the renowned Kerrville New Folk contest in Texas.

Ronald tours internationally and draws on his skills as a singer, storyteller and musician to deliver a captivating show. An accomplished soloist, he also performs as a duo with award-winning multi-instrumentalist, John Ellis, and as a trio incorporating master fiddler Mike Sanyshyn. These top musicians feature on Ronald’s latest recordings released on esteemed Canadian folk label Borealis Records.

"The evening began with Chris Ronald who has the ability (likely honed from time as both a busker and a schoolteacher) to hold attention. Mike Sanyshyn and John Ellis joined him on stage, and with dramatic melodic fiddle flourishes (Sanyshyn) and guitar/mandolin/banjo/vocal harmonies (Ellis) aided an already skilled storyteller in sharing tales. Ronald’s songs take inspiration from everything between (and including) a photograph of his brothers, busking, finding a lost wedding ring, and even the heart-attack of a championship curler. The trio had the audience singing, clapping, and relaxing to the intricate sounds of Ronald’s latest album Fragments." (Folk on the Road)
